Owing to the economically vulnerable position of small milk producers, the dairy industry is the sector with the highest level of protection. Milk also known as white gold can be used to produce a huge range of high quality products. The high raw material cost of milk has necessitated a high-tech manufacturing industry. The special nature of milk (perishable and bulky) leads to the need for strict and comprehensive regulation of quality, and high transport costs. The significant reliance of the milk producers on the dairy processing industry has resulted in the cooperatives having a powerful role in the Milk marketing and processing industries.
