Criminology is the study of criminal activity and deviant behavior. Criminology is an interdisciplinary field in both behavioral and social sciences that draws primarily from sociologists, psychologists, philosophers, psychiatrists, biologists, social anthropologists, and law scholars. Criminologists are the professionals who work and study both the ins and outs of crime. Criminologists often look for possible criminal behavioral patterns in hopes of finding a specific perpetrator. They also conduct research and research, and develop theories. Criminologists' interests include investigating the essence of crime and offenders, criminal law history, crime etiology, societal response to crime, and the functioning of law enforcement agencies and criminal institutions. Broadly speaking, criminology directs its investigations in three lines: firstly, it investigates the nature of criminal law and its administration and the conditions under which it develops; secondly, it analyzes the causation of crime and the personality of criminals; and thirdly, it studies crime control and offender rehabilitation. Therefore, criminology covers the actions of governmental bodies, law enforcement agencies etc. within its framework.
