Collagen Impact Factor

Collagen is the main protein of the connective tissue and is the most abundant protein in the human body , making up about one quarter, i.e. 25 to 35% of the total body weight and helping to maintain tissue integrity. It is a wide family of triple helical proteins that are found all over the body. It is the primary tensile element in vertebrate tissues, and is also the main component of ligaments and tendons. Protein constitutes about 20 per cent of body mass, 25-35 per cent of which is made up of collagen. Among these 90 percent are collagen type I and the remainder are of other types. So a 70 kg adult contains more than 1 x 10 monomers of type I collagen.
