Chordomas

Chordoma is a rare form of cancer that occurs in the base and backbone of the skull. It is part of a group of malignant tumors of the bone and soft tissue, called sarcomas. Chordomas represent about 3% of all bone tumors, and about 20% of primary spinal tumors. Sacrum and cervical spine are the most prominent tumor. A chordoma tumor usually grows slowly, often at first without symptoms, and then could cause symptoms for years before it is found by doctors. Chordomas are difficult tumors to treat because vital structures such as the brain stem, spinal cord and essential nerves and arteries are involved.
