Biomass may be a basic term in ecology, and within the energy production industry. Organic waste like dead plant and material , animal dung and kitchen waste are often converted into gaseous fuel called biogas. The organic waste is decomposed by bacteria in biogas digesters to emit biogas which is actually a mix of methane and CO2 .In ecology, biomass means the build up of living matter. it's the entire living material during a given area or a biological community or group. Biomass is measured by weight, or by dry weight, per given area (per square meter or square kilometre). within the energy industry, it refers to biological material which may be used as fuel or for industrial production. Biomass includes plant matter grown to be used as biofuel, and also includes plant or animal matter used for production of fibres, chemicals or heat. Biomass can also include biodegradable wastes which may be burnt as fuel. It excludes organic material which has been transformed by geological processes into substances like coal or petroleum. it's usually measured by dry weight. Burning plant-derived biomass releases CO2, but it is still been classified as a renewable energy source within the EU and UN legal frameworks because photosynthesis cycles the CO2 back to new crops.
