Biodiversity prospecting or bioprospecting is a systematic quest for biochemical and genetic knowledge of a
species in order to produce potentially useful items for medicinal, industrial, cosmetic and other applications. The new field of biotechnological application of biodiversity is known as bioprospecting, which involves the "systematic quest for dna, natural products, designs and entire organisms in wild life with potential for drug creation by biological discoveries and biophysical, biochemical and genetic methods without disturbance of nature." Bioprospecting therefore has three facets: "organic prospecting,
gene prospecting and bionic prospecting. At the same time , commercial bioressources users volunteer to try comply with the provisions of the Convention In order to gain access to the raw bioresources that can be developed into products. Such schemes to exploit biological diversity have come to be called prospecting of biodiversity or bioprospecting for economically important genetic and biochemical resources. While the unfortunate term suggests a new form of biocolonial appropriation with all the controversy involved, it has nevertheless become the most widely used term for these transactions. Innovations in the field of biological bioprospecting can be helpful in the development of bioprospecting. It can also be used in the prevention of biopiracy and the exploitation of indigenous knowledge. This journal is focused on biological Bioprospecting innovations.
