Nematodes are roundworms characterized by a tough outer cuticle, fully developed gastrointestinal trac and a unsegmented bodies, . The order Strongylida includes hookworms and lungworms.Angiostrongylus cantonensis, which is also known as the rat lungworm, causes eosinophilic meningitis and is prevalent in Southeast Asia and tropical Pacific islands. The known distribution of the parasite has been rising over time and infections have been recognized in other areas, including the United States. Africa, and the Caribbean.
