Aerospace Engineering

Aerospace engineering is the primary engineering field concerned with aircraft and spacecraft development. It has two main, overlapping branches: aeronautical engineering and astronautical engineering. Avionics engineering is similar, but it does deal with the aerospace engineering side of electronics. The initial name for the field was "Aeronautical Engineering" The broader term "aerospace engineering" has come into common use as flight technology advanced to include vehicles operating in outer space. Aerospace engineering, especially the astronautics branch, is often referred to colloquially as "rocket science". Flight vehicles are subject to demanding conditions such as those caused by changes in atmospheric pressure and temperature, with structural loads being applied to components of the vehicles. Consequently, they are typically the results of various fields of technology and engineering, including aerodynamics, propulsion, avionics, materials science, structural analysis and manufacture.
