The term addiction doesn't only ask dependence on substances like heroin or cocaine. An individual who cannot stop taking a specific drug or chemical features a substance dependence. Some addictions also involve an inability to prevent partaking in activities, like gambling, eating, or working. In these circumstances, an individual features a behavioral addiction. Addiction may be a chronic disease which will also result from taking medications. The overuse of prescribed opioid painkillers, for instance , causes 115 deaths a day within the us . When an individual experiences addiction, they can't control how they use a substance or partake in an activity, and that they become hooked in to it to deal with lifestyle. Misuse refers to the wrong, excessive, or non-therapeutic use of body- and mind-altering substances. However, nobody that misuses a substance has an addiction. Addiction is that the long-term inability to moderate or cease intake. For instance , an individual who drinks alcohol heavily on an evening out may experience both the euphoric and harmful effects of the substance. For instance , vomiting or awakening with a hangover after drinking an excessive amount of alcohol may deter some people from drinking that quantity anytime soon. Someone with an addiction will still misuse the substance in spite of the harmful effects.
