The vocal cord nodule is a mass of tissue that grows in the vocal folds. This mass typically appears at the junction of the vocal fold's anterior 1/3 and subsequent 2/3, where contact is most powerful. A vocal cord nodule decreases or obstructs the ability of vocal folds to create the rapid air pressure changes that generate human speech.
