This breakdown in self-tolerance leads to a diverse range of conditions, each manifesting with unique symptoms and affecting specific organs or multiple systems. While the precise etiology remains elusive, a combination of genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors is implicated. Common autoimmune diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and celiac disease.
