Vitiligo is a disease that is causing blotches to lose skin colour. The extent and rate of vitiligo loss of color is impredictable. This affects the skin on every part of the body, hair, mouth and even eyes. Vitiligo happens when the
cells that manufacture melanin die or stop functioning. Vitiligo affects individuals of all skin types. The main sign of vitiligo is loss of color (pigment) which produces patches of light or white on your skin. The discoloration usually shows first on areas exposed to the sun, such as the hands, Feet, neck, the lips and the nose. Vitiligo signs include skin discolouration, premature whitening or hair graying on your scalp, eyelashes, eyebrows or beard, loss of color in
tissues that line the inside of your mouth and nose, loss or color change in the inner layer of the retina, discolored patches around the axes, navel, genitals and rectum. The discolored patches may cover many parts of your body depending on the type of vitiligo.
