Tumor Immunology

Immunology for tumors describes the interaction between immune system cells and tumor cells. Understanding such interactions is important for the development of new cancer treatment therapies.. The immunological pathways involved in the growth of cancer are extremely diverse including tissue-resident and cells originating from the blood. The human immune system mounts natural endogenous responses to highly immunogenic tumor cells through a series of steps, including the presentation of tumor antigens to T cells via antigen-presenting cells (APCs), priming and activation of T cells in the lymph nodes, trafficking and infiltration of T cells into tumor beds, the recognition of cancer cells by T cells, the development of antigen-specific effects.
