Substandard-and-Counterfeit Medicines Open Access Articles

Counterfeiting in pharmaceutical products is an increasing worldwide dilemma with a profound impact on lower income countries and lower middle-income countries.It also evolves into a concern in high-income countries. There's no clear internationally agreed definition of counterfeit medicines. It describes a falsified medicine as a drug that is intentionally and fraudulently mislabeled as to its identity and/or its source. Falsification can apply to both branded and generic products. Falsified products may include: the correct ingredients, the incorrect ingredients, no active ingredients, insufficient ingredients or fake packaging. Counterfeiting of pharmaceutical products is a growing problem worldwide with a significant effect on low-income and low-middle - income countries. It also evolves into a concern in high-income countries. This defines a falsified medicine as a medicine that is deliberately and fraudulently mislabeled as to its identity and/or its source. Falsification can apply to both branded and generic products. Counterfeit products may include: the right ingredients, the wrong ingredients, no active ingredients, inadequate ingredients or fake packaging.
