Pollution control is a term used in environmental management. This means controlling emissions and waste to air, water or land. Without pollution control, waste products from consumption, heating, agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transportation, and other human activities, both those that accumulate or spread, will damage the environment. Pollution prevention describes activities that reduce the amount of pollution produced by a process, whether it is consumer consumption, driving, or industrial production. Unlike most pollution control strategies, which seek to manage pollutants after pollutants are formed and reduce their impact on the environment, the pollution prevention approach seeks to improve the efficiency of a process, thereby reducing the amount of pollution that results from its source. Pollution prevention protects the environment by preserving and protecting natural resources while strengthening economic growth through more efficient production in industry and less need for households, businesses and communities to deal with waste.
