 It's a common misconception that the word plastic means artificial in plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is an industrial discipline that entails both changing the appearance of a human and reconstructing facial and body tissue abnormalities related to disease, injuries, or birth conditions. Plastic surgery restores function and improves appearance. This can require operation on every aspect of the body, except for the central nervous system, including: skin (including skin cancer, wounds, injuries, birthmarks and removal of tattoos) Maxillofacial (facial skeleton) Congenital abnormalities. It is critical that the American Board of Plastic Surgery hires a doctor who is qualified in plastic surgery. In general, a board-certified surgeon has graduated from an approved medical school and undergone at least five years of professional surgical education — usually three years of general surgery and two years of cosmetic surgery. Additionally, the surgeon has to practice plastic surgery for 2 years and pass comprehensive written and oral examinations in order to be certified by the board. Board approval is extended every 10 years to guarantee continuous specialist competency.Plastic surgery is a specialty of surgery which involves the restoration, reconstruction or alteration of the human body. It may be divided into two main categories: reconstructive operation and cosmetic operation. Reconstructive surgery involves craniofacial operation, operation by the eye, microsurgery, and burn care.
