Childhood may be a period typified by change, both within the child and within the immediate environment. Changes within the child associated with growth and development are so striking that it's almost as if the kid were a series of distinct yet related individuals passing through infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Changes within the environment occur because the environment and contacts of a totally dependent infant become those of a progressively more independent child and adolescent.
