Mentha Piperita

Mentha piperita  is a hybrid mint, a cross between two herbs of watermint and spearmint. Native to Europe and the Middle East, this plant is now widespread and cultivated in many regions of the world. Sometimes found in the wild with its parent species.  These herbal preparations are used in cosmeceuticals, personal hygiene products, food, and pharmaceutical products for both flavor and fragrance. Peppermint oil has a sharp aroma of fresh menthol and a spicy taste followed by a cold sensation. It also has various therapeutic properties and is used in aromatherapy, bath preparations, mouthwash, toothpaste, and topical preparations. Topical preparations of peppermint oil have been used to calm pruritus and relieve irritation and inflammation. Frequent application to damaged skin can contribute to the level of visible sensitization. Various allergic contact dermatitis reactions to peppermint oil have been described, many of which are associated with perioral and intraoral disorders.
