Land Farming Open Access Journals

Land Farming is a method of treatment for bioremediation that is carried out in the upper soil zone or in biotreatment cells. Contaminated soils, sediments, or sludges are mixed into the surface of the soil and turned over or tilled regularly to aerate the mix. For years this technique has been used in the management and disposal of drill cuttings, oily sludge and other waste from petroleum refineries. Typical of that used in agricultural operations is the equipment used in land farming. These land farming activities cultivate and enhance the degradation of hazardous compounds by microbials. Landfarming has been used successfully to reduce concentrations of hydrocarbon in soils that have kerosene, diesel , jet fuel and crude oil impacts. It was also used successfully for the treatment of oil-based drilling waste (drill cutting, low brine drilling), oily sludge, tank bottoms and pit sludge. The effectiveness of land farming involves treatment of petroleum products has been confirmed in both laboratory and field experiments. Land-Farming is a low-cost technology. Facilities are easy to build and easy to use
