Golden rice may be a genetically modified, biofortified crop. Biofortification increases the nutritional value in crops. Golden rice is genetically modified so as to supply beta carotene, which isn't normally produced in rice. Beta carotene is converted into vitamin A when metabolized by the physical body . we'd like vitamin A for healthier skin, immune systems, and vision. Rockefeller Foundation supported their goal to supply a sustainable biofortification approach to combat vitamin A deficiencies in developing countries. nutrient An insufficiency (VAD) is pervasive in creating nations whose diets are snared in to rice or other micronutrient-poor starch nourishments, which don't contain nutrient A. The World Health Organization estimates that about 250 million preschool children are suffering from VAD and about 2.7 million children die due to the deficiency. VAD can have numerous negative health effects like dryness of the attention which will cause blindness if untreated; reduced system response, and a rise within the severity and mortality risk of infections. VAD is one among the most causes of preventable blindness of young children from developing countries.
