Chemical Warfare Agents

Chemical warfare is potentially among the most lethal Weapons of Mass Destruction produced by mankind. Chemical warfare is highly harmful synthetic substances that can be spread as a gas, liquid, or aerosol, or as particulate-adsorbed agents to form a powder. Such Chemical Warfare Agents have either lethal or debilitating human effects. They differ from explosive chemicals in which shear force causes the destructive effects and they are localized. Thousands of toxic substances are known, but only a few of them, based on their characteristics, are considered as chemical warfare agents. High toxicity, sensory imperceptibility and speed of action after dissemination and persistence, and are listed in the Chemical Weapons Convention as scheduled chemicals.
