Biosafety Level Peer Reviewed Journals

Biosafety level is a set of bio containment precautions, which are required to isolate dangerous biological agents in a confined laboratory facility. The levels of containment of biosafety range from level 1 (lowest) to level 4 (highest). BSL-1: In this level the precautions used for laboratory personnel are limited, compared to other levels. Basic precaution included is washing the hands of personnel upon entering and exiting the lab. BSL-2: Along with the precautions used in the BSL-1, personnel will be trained in handling pathogenic agents & limiting the access to the laboratory work space. BSL-3: This level is commonly used for research and diagnostic work involving microbes that can cause serious diseases through inhalation route. BSL-4: This is the highest level of biosafety precautions in which working with those agents can cause severe to fatal disease. The entry to these laboratories is restricted to trained and authorized individuals.
