Recent advances in management of glioblastoma

Glioblastoma is the most common malignant brain tumour. It constitutes about 15% of all intracranial tumours. There have been a lot of advances in the diagnosis and management of glioblastoma, and research is going on different more future treatment modalities. Methods included a review of literature, and recent research of different ways and techniques of diagnosis and management of Glioblastoma Glioblastoma is the most common aggressive malignant brain lesion, forming around 50% of Astrocytic tumours. The WHO 2016 classification of brain tumour has led to a lot of advances in the management of brain tumours. The goal of treatment of glioblastoma is Maximal tumour resection followed by radio and chemotherapy. Surgery now uses different techniques of fluorescence-guided resection, frame and frameless guided surgery, brain mapping and awake craniotomy. Other treatment modalities under research include Targeted therapy, Immunotherapy, TTfields, T cell therapy and Nanotechnology. The new classification of brain tumour 2021 would include modifications in glioma classification. A lot of research is going on, on future methods of managing glioblastoma, with the aim of better overall survival and outcome.
