Tuberculosis Arthritis Epidemiology
The
infection of the joints as a result of
tuberculosis is called
tuberculosis arthritis. It is alternatively called granulomatous arthritis. It is caused by the bacterial attack of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. A small percent of patients with
tuberculosis will be affected by such condition. The various joints which might be affected are ankles, knees, hips and wrists. Most of the cases of
tuberculosis arthritis involve only one joint. The symptoms of
tuberculosis arthritis are decreased movement of joints, swelling of joints, mild fever, muscle spasms and muscle atrophy. Diagnosis of the disease can be confirmed by
biopsy of the joint ,chest x ray,CT scan of the joint, Joint x rays and tuberculin skin test.
