Premature Ovarian Failure (POF) Top Journals

"The first step in assessing a POF diagnosis is a blood test to determine if the ovary contains estrogen or not, and if the pituitary gland contains the FSH and LH hormones that activate the ovarian follicles. POI females don't ovulate (release an egg) every month. This renders pregnancy challenging. However, studies have shown that a small percentage (5-10 per cent) of women with idiopathic premature ovarian failure (where the cause is unknown) often ovulate and become pregnant. Chemotherapy and radiation therapy are common causes of the ovarian failure caused by toxins. These therapies can cause damage to cell genetic material. Other toxins such as smoke from cigarettes, chemicals , pesticides, and viruses could hurry ovarian failure."
