 Power electronics is one among the contemporary subjects of EE which has seen tons of advancements in recent times and has impacted human life in almost every sphere. We over selves use numerous power electronic applications in our lifestyle , without even realizing t. Now the question stands as, “what is power electronics?” We can define power electronics as a topic which may be a hybrid of power engineering, analogue electronics, semiconductor devices and control systems. We derive the basics of every subject and apply it in an amalgamated way so on get a regulated sort of electricity . electricity in itself isn't usable until it's converted into a tangible sort of energy like motion, light, sound, heat etc. so as to manage these sorts of energy, an efficient way is to manage the electricity itself and this forms the content of the topic power electronics. We can trace the overwhelming advancement within the subject back to the event of economic thyristors silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR) by General Electric Co. in 1958. Before this the control of electricity was mainly done using thyratrons and mercury arc rectifiers which works on the principle of physical phenomena in gases and vapours. After SCR, an excellent many power electronic devices have emerged like GTO, IGBT, SIT, MCT, TRIAC, DIAC, IEGT, IGCT then on. These devices are rated for several many volt and ampere unlike the amplitude devices which work on few volts and mill amperes.
