Planetary geology, alternatively known as astrogeology or exogeology, is a planetary science discipline concerned with the geology of celestial bodies like planets and their moons ,asteroids , comets, and meteorites. Although the geo-prefix usually means topics related to or related to Earth, planetary geology is called as such for historical and convenient reasons.. It is also closely linked to Earth-based geology because of the types of investigations involved.Planetary geology covers subjects such as assessing the internal structure of the Earth's planets, and also discusses planetary volcanism and surface processes such as craters of impact, fluvial and aeolian processes. The structures of the giant planets and their moons are also being examined, as are the composition of the solar system's minor bodies, such as asteroids, the Kuiper Belt, and comets.
