Pharmacology Online Journals
Pharmacology is that the study of how a
drugs works, how the body responds thereto , and therefore the changes that occur over time. Non-clinical pharmacological studies allow scientists to match a medicine’s beneficial effects with its negative (toxic) effects. This comparison is vital in order that a radical benefit-risk analysis are often made before proceeding to check the
drugs in clinical (human) studies. If the
drugs does proceed to the clinical phase, data gathered during non-clinical
pharmacology and
toxicology studies help to work out the dosage of
drugs given to volunteers within the first clinical studies (first-in-human). The primary objective of pharmacodynamic studies is to collect
information on how the
drugs affects the body (for instance, what receptors it activates). This allows scientists to assess the efficacy of the
drugs – that's , whether or not the
drugs has the specified effect on the target, and if so, how strong that effect is. It also allows a far better understanding of the connection between the concentration of the
drugs within the body and therefore the strength of its effect.Pharmacodynamic studies are crucial for the safety assessment of a medicine. They identify any undesirable effects that the
drugs has and investigate the range of doses at which the specified effect of the
drugs on the body occurs (therapeutic dose range).
