Oryza Sativa

Oryza sativa, commonly called as Asian rice, is the plant species most commonly referred to in English as rice. Oryza sativa Rice is the most widely grown tropical cereal, and over 400 million tonnes of milled rice is produced each year. Oryza sativa is a grass with a genome composed of 430Mb across 12 chromosomes. It is renowned for being easy to genetically modify, and is a model organism for cereal biology. Oryza sativa includes two major subspecies: the sticky, short-grained japonica, and the non-sticky, long-grained rice variety. Japonica varieties are usually cultured in dry fields, in temperate East Asia, upland region of Southeast Asia, and high advancement in South Asia, while indica varieties are mainly lowland rice, grown mostly submerged, throughout tropical Asia. Rice exists in a variety of colours, containing white, brown, black, purple, and red rice.
