Organ Transplantation Research Articles

The medicinal technique in which an organ is isolated from an individual’s body and placed in the body of another individual i.e., recipient to replace a damaged organ or missing organ is called organ transplantation. The donor and recipient may be at the same place, or the organs may be transferred from a donor site to the location of recipient. Organs which are transplanted within the same individual’s body are called autografts. The transplants that are executed between two subjects of the same species are known as allografts. The allografts can either be from a cadaveric or living source. Organs which have been effectively transplanted includes the kidneys, heart, pancreas, liver, lungs, intestine, uterus and thymus.
