Nitrogen Fixing Microorganisms Articles

Microorganisms are employed to improve the quantity of nitrogen (by fixing atmosphere N). It has an economically attractive and ecologically great for increasing nutrient supply. Plant growth promoting species are used to improve crop yield. Nitrogen-fixing bacteria form symbiotic associations with plants and with some fungi. Soil microorganisms play important role in nitrogen cycling within ecosystem. The process of imparting the biologically present nitrogen to the easily accessible nitrogen dioxide is called a Nitrogen Fixation process. Almost of the prokaryotic bacteria called diazotrophs are regarded in fixing the atmospheric nitrogen. Microorganisms that fix nitrogen necessary 16 moles of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to bring down each mole of nitrogen. These organisms receive this energy by oxidizing organic molecules. Non-photosynthetic free-living microorganisms essentially receive these molecules from other organisms, while photosynthetic microorganisms, such as cyanobacteria, use sugars created by photosynthesis. Associative and symbiotic nitrogen-fixing microorganisms receive these compounds from their host plants rhizospheres.
