 Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tb) may be a species of pathogenic bacteria within the Mycobacteriaceae and therefore the causative agent of tuberculosis. This coating makes the cells impervious to Gram staining, and as a result, M. tuberculosis can appear either Gram-negative or Gram-positive. Acid-fast stains like Ziehl-Neelsen, or fluorescent stains like auramine are used instead to spot M. tuberculosis with a microscope. The physiology of M. tuberculosis is very aerobic and requires high levels of oxygen. Primarily a pathogen of the mammalian systema respiratorium , it infects the lungs. the foremost frequently used diagnostic methods for tuberculosis are the tuberculin diagnostic test , acid-fast stain, culture, and polymerase chain reaction.M. tuberculosis is a component of a posh that has a minimum of 9 members: M. tuberculosis sensu stricto, M. africanum, M. canetti, M. bovis, M. caprae, M. microti, M. pinnipedii, M. mungi, and M. orygis.
