gastroenterology then became a subfield of it, but today it appears to be emerging as a freestanding medicine. The word hepato- part comes from the Latin hepaticus derived from the Greek hepatikos meaning the liver. The -logy part comes from the Greek logos meaning the study of, or field.
Hepatology used to be viewed as a subspecialty of gastroenterology, however these days specialists can have practical experience in hepatology, which is rapidly rising as an unattached forte. As a basic organ that can be influenced by an enormous number of variables, the liver is generally the point of convergence in hepatology. A hepatologist for the most part just evaluates patients after they are alluded by their primary care physician.
