Gastroenteritis is an irritation and inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract involving both the stomach and the small intestine. Diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are the symptoms of Gastrointestinal infections. Rehydration is important as in gastrointestinal infections dehydration occurs and it is dangerous too. In healthcare settings and in specific populations such as in immunocompromised patients, newborns or in elderly populations the infection is very serious. Quick diagnosis, suitable treatment and infection control measures must be taken particularly in these circumstances. Large number of microorganisms are mostly involved in causing gastrointestinal infections.
