Developmental Immunology Journals

Developmental Immunology is a branch of medical science that studies factors that are responsible for the development of immune cells and organs in a body of organisms. The immune system is still in developing condition in newborn babies, while the system becomes depressed with ageing. There are therefore many factors in the human body responsible for an active immune system which includes age, type of antigen, maternal factors, etc. The body's immune cells, such as the lymphocytes and monocytes, are not fully active in neonates. Therefore their phagocytic activity becomes impaired when they come into contact with the foreign cells and antigens. Maternal milk carries several important factors, such as antibodies, which are needed in neonates for an active innate immunity. These antibodies actually help the newborn babies to survive without any external vaccination for months.
