Unlike Integrated Pest Management (IPM) which focuses on crop protection, crop management is a pragmatic approach to crop production. This can include issues like IPM, soil management , social management , and environmental management. The emphasis on crop production in recent decades has changed from yields to quality and health, then more recently sustainability. Crop management practices for the safe use of salt-affected soils and saline water primarily consists of growing suitable salt-tolerant crops, managing seedbeds, and grading fields to minimize local accumulation of salts, soil management, improving irrigation efficiency and soil, water, and salinity monitoring for assessing leaching and drainage requirements.
