Patients with a hoarseness in their voice present vocal fold changes. The physician should be knowledge of the anatomic, physiologic and functional aspects of voice disorders and the latest diagnostic and therapeutic methods for a comfortable and patient specific treatment. The most common cause of vocal cord nodules is the straining of vocal cords. Severe irritation causing changes in the vocal cords can lead to formation of nodules or polyps. They can bring about a hoarseness and breathy voice. After surgical removal of smokers polys which may include most of the vocal folds there can be frequent voice breaks, vocal fatigue and reduced range of vocal sounds.
