  The first trademark law in India was passed in 1940 and became known as the Trademark Act of 1940. This law was later replaced by the Trade and Goods Act of 1958. A registered trademark is a sign or a combination of signs which distinguish the goods or services of one person or a company from those of another. Its origin dates back to Antiquity, when craftsmen reproduced their signatures or brands on their artistic or utility products.
