Skin Cancer Impact Factor

More than 90% of cases are caused by exposure to ultraviolet radiation from the sun. This exposure increases the risk of the three main types of skin cancer such as basal cell cancer (BCC), squamous cell cancer (SCC) and melanoma. Skin cancer develops mainly in areas of skin that are exposed to sunlight, including the scalp, face, lips, ears, neck, chest, arms and hands, and on the feet in women. But it can also form in areas that rarely see the light of day - your palms, under your nails or nails, and your genital area. Skin cancer affects people of all skin colors, including those who have darker skin. When melanoma occurs in people with dark skin color, it is more likely to occur in areas that are usually not exposed to sunlight, such as palms and soles.
