Retinal Degenerative Diseases Innovations

Millions of people around the world suffer from retinal degenerative diseases involving complete blindness at varying degrees of vision loss including. Retinal degenerative disease is a debilitating condition that has an important impact on everyday life. Vision loss affects a wide range of everyday tasks from performing basic functions to personal independence and mental health, such as reading , watching TV, driving etc. The damage to the retina's photoreceptor cells, which malfunction and disappear, is common to all retinal degenerative diseases. The photo-receptor cells are the retina's light-sensing cells, the delicate nerve layer lining the back of the eye. Normally the photoreceptor cells of the retina sense light (similar to how a camera captures a picture), initiate a cascade of electrical impulses that are transmitted to the brain through the retina and the optic nerve, and create an image. When degenerative disease causes the photoreceptor cells to malfunction, the image that is received is blurred, distorted or completely unseen. Often this is a progressive disease where the person is going to suffer a continuous decline in vision. The innovations in the related topics can be seen in the Journals.
