Renal Fibrosis Innovations

Fibrotic disorders are commonplace, take many forms and can present life-threatening consequences. There is no better example of this than the progressive fibrosis that accompanies all chronic renal illness. Renal fibrosis is a direct consequence of the limited capacity of the kidney to regenerate following injury. Renal scarring results in a progressive loss of renal function which eventually leads to end-stage renal failure and a dialysis or kidney transplantation requirement. Because it presents itself histologically as an increase in extracellular matrix, we know that a de novo synthesis of matrix (primarily collagen), or a significant loss of renal pa may cause the histological appearance.
