Paget Disease

Paget disease of bone (PD) is characterized by a process called re-modeling removes old pieces of bone and replaces them with new, fresh bone, with eventual replacement of the normal bone marrow by vascular and fibrous tissue. Paget’s disease results in new bone that is abnormally shaped, weak, and brittle. This disease most commonly occurs in the pelvis, skull, spine and legs. Risk factors include increasing the age of the person and due to genetic disorders. The origin of Paget disease is not well interrupted, but PD-linked gene and several other susceptibility loci have been recognised. In Pagetic osteoclasts, the gene product named Paramyxoviral has been detected.
