Many robots are constructed to do jobs that are dangerous to humans, such as defusing bombs, finding survivors in unstable ruins, and exploring mines and shipwrecks. Robotics is also used as a teaching aid in STEM (Science , Technology , Engineering, and Math). The concept of creating machines that can operate autonomously dates back to classical times but until the 20th century, research into the functionality and potential uses of robots has not grown substantially. Various authors, inventors, engineers , and technicians have often believed throughout history that robots will one day be able to imitate human actions and perform tasks in a human-like fashion. Today, as technological advancements continue, robotics is a fast growing field; studying, designing, and constructing new robots serve various practical purposes, whether domestically, commercially, or militarily.
