Cytogenetics can be described as being about the analysis of the cell's structure and function, focusing mainly on the cell's structure and composition. During pregnancy, cytogenetic tests are typically performed to determine any structural or chromosomal defects in the fetes. As the changes occur in the chromosomes, thus altering the genes and eventually leading to the production of fatal or abnormal protein production, resulting in mild to serious or lethal birth defects.
