Myocardium Regeneration

Pathological myocardial growth process entails hypertrophy of the myocytes and proliferation. However it remains to be identified the origin of replicating myocytes in the human heart. The main concern is whether the myocardium contains a subpopulation of non-terminally differentiated myocytes or whether primitive cells live in the heart and undergo lineage engagement to produce amplifying cells. It is possible that cells that express surface antigens commonly found in stem cells are stored in the adult heart and can give rise to myocytes and vascular structures following stimulation. And the heart that's hurt has the ability to repair itself.
