Melesma Impact Factor

Melasma can be caused due to hormonal changes during pregnancy or  sun exposure. Women are far more likely to experience this condition than men. Brown or gray-brown patches most often appear on the cheeks, forehead, nose and chin. Although the exact cause of melasma is unclear, common triggers include sun exposure, pregnancy, birth control pills, and cosmetics. It can also occur in the neck and forearms. Skin discoloration is not physically harmful, but you might feel aware of its appearance. Sun exposure can cause melasma because ultraviolet light affects the cells that control the pigment (melanocytes). Melasma is a chronic skin disorder that produces symmetrical, blemished, brownish facial pigmentation. Melasma can also affect the arms and back. This can cause considerable shame and distress.
