Medicinal Plants Online Journals

Medicinal plants have been used in traditional medicine and global ethno medicine. This section presents a glimpse of the present position of and upcoming trends in medicinal plant genomics, evolution, and phylogeny. These dynamic fields are at the intersection of photochemistry and plant biology and are concerned with evolution mechanisms and systematics of medicinal plant genomes, source and evolution of plant genotype and metabolic phenotype, interaction among medicinal plant genomes and environment, and correlation amongst genomic diversity and metabolite diversity, etc. The uses of the emergent high-end genomic skills can be extended from crop plants to traditional medicinal plants to accelerate the medicinal plant breeding and convert them to the living factory of medicinal compounds. The usefulness of molecular phylogeny and phylogenomics in predicting chemodiversity and bioprospecting is also highlighted within the situation of natural product-based drug discovery and growth. The characteristic case studies of medicinal plant genome, phylogeny, and progress are brief to exemplify the enlargement of knowledge pedigree and the paradigm move to the omics-based tactics, which update our responsiveness about plant genome growth and allow the molecular breeding of medicinal plants and the sustainable operation of plant pharmaceutical resources.
