Agriculture is far and away the most important water use at global level. Irrigation of agricultural lands accounted for 70% of the water used worldwide. In several developing countries, irrigation represents up to 95% of all water uses, and plays a serious role in food production and food security. Future agricultural development strategies of most of these countries depend on the possibility to maintain, improve and expand irrigated agricultureOn the other hand, the increasing pressure on water resources by agriculture faces competition from other water use sectors and represents a threat to the environment.Water may be a resource which will create tensions among countries down and upstream. Irrigated agriculture is driving much of the competition since it accounts for 70-90% of water use in may of those regions. to improve the capital value of their property. Since irrigated land can potentially support higher crops, pasture and animal production, it's considered more valuable. The value of the property is additionally associated with the water licensing agreements or 'water right'.to cost save/obtain greater returns. The cost benefits from the simpler use of fertilisers and greater financial benefits as a results of simpler agricultural productivity (both quality and quantity) and for 'out of season' production are likely.
