Intramuscular Interferon

Interferon belongs to a large class of proteins called cytokines. These molecules are used for the communication between the cells to activate the protective defences of the immune system which helps in the destruction of pathogens. If there is any presence of pathogens found in the body, the host cells release a group of signalling proteins called Interferons. Intramuscular interferons (Interferon beta-1a) are used in the treatment of Multiple sclerosis. Interferon beta-1a is produced by mammalian cells, while Interferon beta-1b is produced in modified E.coli. Many studies says that Interferons produce about 18-38% reduction in the rate of Multiple Sclerosis relapses. Interferons are not cure for Multiple Sclerosis. There is no cure for the Multiple Sclerosis.
