HIV A Health Disorder
AIDS, that is Acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome is a chronic condition that can result in a life-threatening condition caused by human
immunodeficiency virus. By damaging your immunity, HIV interferes with your body's ability to fight disease and infection. HIV is a sexually transmitted infection. It can also be spread in contact with infected blood or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. Without medication, it may take years for HIV to weaken your
immune system to the point that you have AIDS. There is no cure for
AIDS virus, but
drugs can dramatically slow the progression of the disease. These
drugs have reduced
AIDS deaths in many developed countries. In a chronic phase, HIV is still present in the body and white blood cells. However, many people may not suffer from symptoms or infections during this time.
